Justification for the Death Penalty

  This man, and acts like his, is why we need the death penalty.  Here is a man who has proven he is not fit for civilization.  He planned a hanus act, waited for his victim to come along, sprayed her with a flammable liquid and burned her alive in an elevator.  I can see how he could be sentenced to something less.  Some liberal judge proceding over the case.  “Well Mr. Isaac, the old bat owed you $2000.  You know what I always say, the bitch better have my money!  You can go…”  What do you do with a guy like this.  Life in prison?  The guy could easily live another 4o years, costing over a million bucks.  This guy isn’t worth a million bucks.  Sometimes I wish we’d have an eye for an eye style of punishment.  Put the guy in a box, pour gasoline on him and let him light up the night sky.  This guy deserves the death penalty and quickly!

Who are Some Charities Helping?

 The Oregon Attorney General recently released a list of 20 worst charity organizations.  It seems very little of the money donated actually went to the people they were suppose to help.  Why are these charities allowed to maintain their non-profit status?  Topping the list was Shiloh International Ministries.  According to the list only 3.2% of the money donated was actually sent out to help.  The remaining 96.8% covered admin, marketing and salaries.  If it costs you so much to run a charity organization then it time to re-examine how you are running it. 

  I’m all for charity organizations helping the poor or down trodden.  But I’m against these organizations which appear to exist only to help those employed by the organization.  A new standard needs to be set up on who or what qualifies for a tax exempt non-profit charity.  I believe 75% of the money they take in should going out to help those their charter states.  If not then remove their tax exempt status.  I’m not afraid of all charities going away or not being available to help the people.  If you get rid of the inefficient ones, in some cases seemingly corrupt, then more money would be available for the honest ones.

 

United Nations – Industrialized Countries Get Out!

  Once again the United Nations is giving the industrialized nations a reason to leave the UN.  They want to form a world court to punish nations who have “historical climate debt”.  Or to put it in true terms, countries who had the foresight and intelligence not to limit its people ability to create and grow.  Would this world be better if it mirrored the African nations, or maybe the Middle East where the population on whole is illiterate and being controlled by a few in the name of some cause or religion.  How many countries do you think refused the aid money offered by the United States?  Karzai in Afghanistan is a good example of that.  Shakes our hand and thanks us for all our help, then stabs us in the back as we are leaving the room.

This “court” wants all warfare to stop.  Apparently “conflict-related activities emit significant greenhouse gas emissions”.  Historically since religion has played a big part of man’s desire to kill his fellow man, thus war, should we cancel all religions?  I’m not a religious person, but I don’t think I should get to tell someone else how to think, especially if it doesn’t affect my way of life.  If religion makes you happy, it should be part of your life.

I think the UN has proven itself to be useless and outdated time and time again.  What war or atrocity has the United Nations put a stop to?  They seem to be focused on spreading socialism and redistributing the wealth.  Not to mention raping of helpless women.  Socialism and Communism are both great, if you are at the top and in control.  You don’t go with out food, water or the other basics of life.  Being at the bottom is a different story.

If you want a good example on how this United Nations agenda will function, take a look at the Commission of Human Rights.  They have a long list of members who have shining records of giving their people a fair shake.  While accomplishing nothing!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, United States get out of the United Nations!

 

Project SolarStrong – Military Housing

I’m retired military.  I spent 20 years in the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program on submarines.  I’ve seen my share of the gross waste of money.  I remember one repair period where I had to spend over $9000 to get two filters because I needed a spring and a pin.  Those two parts were probably worth $100 combined, but you couldn’t get them without the entire filter.  We’ve all heard of the $600 toilet seats and the other outrageous spending.  Now they are saying we as tax payers are going to install solar panels on military housing.  They say it’ll provide military families with lower cost electricity.  In my time in the Navy I was single so never experienced Navy Housing, but I had friends that did.  I’m pretty sure the military paid for the electricity they used.  From figures I’ve seen for just the installation costs, (not time spent for cleaning or upkeep of the solar panels), solar costs around 40 cents a KWh if figured over the 20 year life span.  If you look at your electric bill you are probably paying around 7 cents a KWh.  A simple way to explain a KWh is if you leave a 100 watt light bulb on for ten hours.  Solar panels are only effective around four hours a day.  Usually the hours we are all at work.  Now this power can be sold back to the utility company, if their system will support it.  Of course once you add government rebates and incentives into the picture it does bring the cost down.  But not anywhere near the seven cent mark.  I’m sure the military got a bargain on the panels too.  Another example of a gross waste in govenment spending!

Coke’s Save the Polar Bears Campaign

Have a Coke and a Smile…  Or maybe it should be have a Coke and by some strange twist of environmental madness you can save a polar bear.  I personally think if Coke wanted to do something to save the planet it would shut down its factories.  I mean really, what good does any Coca Cola product do for us?  Simply producing the product pollutes the earth and uses resources better used someplace else.  It would be interesting to see how much electricity and fossil fuels are consumed each year producing, distributing and cooling Coca Cola products.  And assuming “Global Warming” was real, how much does that consumption affect our planet? 

I think the global warming scare is just that.  The bogey man in the closet that will get us if we fail to be good stewards.  How many billions of dollars were earned from this fraud science hyped up by a so many.  Our earth is affected by forces so much greater than anything mankind could do to it.  From violent volcanic eruptions to solar flares throwing cosmic rays our way.  Think of the destruction and recovery this wonderful rock floating in space has lived through.  How egotistical of us to think we can damage it permanently.  Coke should be ashamed at this bogus attempt to get business by supporting a cause that has been proven wrong!

Evacuate Portland

  The weekend the police shut down the two park blocks the Occupy Portlanders were using to set up their tents and transform into a trash pile.  In the course of my dealings with the city I walked or drove by the parks a couple of times.  They were nasty.  I had no desire to get close enough to smell them, those rumors could be left as rumors.  I would commend the police their restraint in dealing with the crowds.  The Mayor of Portland didn’t give me a whole lot of confidence in his ability to handle things.  What started out a couple hundred people turned into thousands as people showed up to support the occupiers.  The police were smart and held off until the sun came up and the additional people left. To be fair, another report stated the Mayor’s plan was to annouce a midnight evacuation then wait until the party died down and then evict them.  If that is the case it was thought out and seemed to work.  I’m still thinking it was luck the way it turned out.

Maybe if the protesters had a message or a purpose I could see it.  I read a great article on the internet today saying the protesters have to fail to prove the 1% really do control things.  If the 99% make a difference their protest was based on a false assumption.  They were able to change things and make a difference.

One difference they made was to ruin the park for the citizens who would like to use it.  If you looked at the condition of the parks after the rabble was finally driven out you can really see the difference between the occupiers and the Tea Party.  The Tea Party would never leave such a mess.  It was usually stated the Tea Party left the parks cleaner then they found it. For this protest, it will be the tax paying portion of the 99% has to pay for the clean up.  Can we call ourselves the 46%?  We are not the top 1%, the lower 53% don’t pay any federal income taxes, so…

Penn State Abuse Scandal

I’m not sure what more can be said about the abuse case at Penn State.  Do I feel sorry for the long time coach, no, not a bit.  I completely agree with his firing.  It’s one of the responsibilities that go along with the perks of a leadership job.  Control your people, make sure they behave correctly, or you pay the price. 

  After some thought on the subject I think the assistant coach should have been fired too.  He did do what the law required of him by reporting the abuse.  But when he saw nothing was being done about it he should have gone to the authorities. 

  I don’t know how many more boys were abused by Jerry Sandusky after he was caught by Mike McQueary.  But I think every boy after that has a solid case against Penn State and Coach Joe Paterno.  I don’t normally say this but I think those boys should sue the hell out of them.  If the athletic department suffers for it then maybe the next time something like that happens they will act a little quicker to put a stop to it.  It’s a lot like the priest scandals of several years ago.  Sometimes the best course of action is to not handle something in house.

Legends of Shannara – Terry Brooks

I’ve always liked the Shannara series.  One of the first books which started my love for reading was “The Sword of Shannara”.  And yes I read it back when it was the only Shannara book out.  I loved the illustrations the book offered, it gave a glimpse of what the author was writing about.  Many stories have been written about the realm until finally the tale circles back to the beginning.  From the Word and the Void series where the demons first starting showing up, to the Genesis of Shannara which drove the people into the protected valley.  The Legends of Shannara start 500 years after Genesis ended.  The protective wards break down and expose the people to the old world.  The Last Knight of the Word goes out and finds many of the evils of the old world still exist.  But he finds good also, people worthy of friendship and honor.  This book covers the struggle of the people as the evils of the outside world, with the help of a demon, try to take the valley away from the people.  It’s an excellent read I highly recommend it.  My next book will be the First King of Shannara.  I am not sure how I missed this one but it takes place 500 years before Sword starts.  It’s amazing the span of time these books cover.

After finding several websites that offer timelines for the Shannara series I think I’m going to read the Sword of Shannara again before I read the First King.  I am surprised the e-book for my Nook App is still $7.99.  I don’t think I paid that much for the collector edition a couple of decades ago.

Designated Tax Money

  In Portland, Oregon there is a transit project in the works.  Tri-Met, the agency which will benefit from the project, is out of money and potentially will have to cut services.  This project is millions of dollars, including having to build a bridge over the Willamette River.  When ask why they don’t stop and save the money for other purposes, they say they can’t.  This money is designated. 

  However, when someone in government has a pet project, they seem to be able to take money from another area.  They can come up with all sorts of reasons to raid a fund for something that it is not designated for.  The City of Portland has taken money out of the Water Bureau several times for shaky reasons.  This leads to major mistrust of government.  They ask for money, we say no, then they “find” the money some place else.  From bike paths, park improvements or new high-tech buildings they find the money.  It must be nice to have others people’s money to spend on your favorite idea and not being held accountable.  But then why shouldn’t they.  The weird citizens of this city don’t seem to care, they are the largest voting block and keep voting in the people who don’t wisely use their money.  I don’t expect it to get any better soon.

Internet Explorer 9

  Anyone try IE9?  I installed it on my home computer.  Do you think Microsoft is trying to drive away business?  I am not a big fan of this program.  The option to go to view recent webpages, which in the past versions was a little blue down arrow in the upper left corner, is no longer available.  Now you have to click on VIEW,  then GO TO and it will give you a list of webpages you’ve recently visited.  This option is important if you get stuck on one of those websites that will not let you back out of it.  That is a minor problem.  It doesn’t update very well.  During my recent change in Web Hosting experience IE9 didn’t work very well.  I had to use Chrome to view the changes I was making to the page.  I’m going to see if I can un-install it and re-install IE8.

Additional Comment:  I did figure out you can do the view recent webpages by right clicking on the blue back button.  Did they get that from Chrome?  I find that annoying, what they had worked great.
